TOMATO HORNWORM

Yep, it was as I thought. Those almost 4" long green catepillars are tomato hornworms. Beautiful yet, they turn into a peculiar brown moth.

There is plenty to google about them but I thought this link was the funniest.

It comes from the Eat-A-Bug Cookbook. Somebody let me know if you've tried this recipe and it is good. I can send you a bunch more hornworms for your next meal.

We got a big soaking tonight so I wonder if my tender young plants are still alive or what.

As for our 4H project - our 12 eggs are down to 8. We had 1 broke on arrival, 1 yoker, 2 quitters. We recandled a few days later and have suspect 2 more quitters. If that holds true (didn't throw those away yet), then we're down to 50% which is considered typical for an embryology project. Still, the boys were ecstatic to see one of the chick embryoes move around. We talked a lot about when life begins that night.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! That will be an image I can't get out of my mind for a while! Almost, but not quite, scarier than our backyard!

Hugs!
