CATEPILLARS EVERYWHERE
by Robin

If you see this..........

(tomato stems with no leaves)

Then you need to look for these.......
Found about 10 of them the past 2 days, destroying my tomatoes. They are voracious. We kept several to turn into butterflies/moths.

Pulled these out. They're simply not growing proper brussel balls. Wasting a lot of space

New empty look of garden #1 with the brussels gone. Lots of onions, grn peppers, spinach, lettuce and herbs, plus last Fall's tomatoes still thriving.

Garden #2. Peppers in front. Tomatoes, spinach & lettuce in back.

Those toms got cages yesterday

Here is the last picture of the captured catepillars in our large container. I left them a handful of tomato sucker leaves to eat last night. This morning, it is all twigs.
I'm tellin' ya, they're voracious eaters and they're huge.
Garden #3 - partial
Cucumbers (L), Summer squash and 2 zuchini (R). The cucumbers are already feeding into the trellis. Squash was a late addition that Jack requested. The big zuch has a bloom already (& cages now).
What you can't see are all the hot peppers in the back half. As winter turns to spring, the garden is getting more and more sun each day. Early morning and late evening sun but totally shaded for the head of the day.

Oh, Robin! I am sorry for your tomatoes! I once had those big fat caterpillars. It took me forever to figure out what was damaging my plants, because I didn't know to look for them and they are exactly camoflauged to the color of the stem. I was so surprised at how hard it was to find them among the vines. Good luck with yours!
