PUBLIC SPEAKING
by Robin

While raising my young fishermen, it occurred to me that they may need experience with public speaking at some point in their lives. Our 4H program provides us with the opportunity to compete on the local, district and state levels. This program is called County Events.

My boys picked their topics, made rough outlines and together we worked on gathering information from their books, safe websites and tv shows. In a short while, the speeches practically write themselves. Simon Peter spoke on Shark Physiology. Andrew spoke on Rainforest Animals. I ended up being asked to be the room monitor & introducing the speeches (my impromptu public speaking engagement).

So,...... drumroll please...... the great news is that both boys excelled in their speeches, were given blue awards (based on individual's points received) and are eligible for District competition next month (purple ribbons). We have a little fine tuning, based on judges comments, and we'll be ready to go. My biggest joy comes from seeing them so comfortable in front of judges & a room of people. They remembered where to point and to look up the majority of the time.

Good job fishermen!!

You've earned your 'booty'. They like ribbons (and money when offered).
